We believe that giving of our resources to support God’s work is biblical.
Giving begins with tithing 10% of one’s income to God, out of a realization that everything we have comes from Him and belongs to Him, and we are simply stewards of what He has entrusted to us. In Genesis 14, Melchizedek, “a priest of God Most High,” blessed Abram, and in return, “Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all the goods he had recovered” (verses 18-20 NLT). The Assemblies of God bylaws state, "We recognize the duty of tithing and urge all our people to pay tithes to God" (Article IX, Section 7a). Malachi 3:10 encourages us, “’Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,’ says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, ‘I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!’” (NLT)
After tithing, we give offerings according to how God leads us. In encouraging the Corinthian church in their collection of support for the believers in Jerusalem, Paul wrote, “You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. ‘For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.’ And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others” (2 Corinthians 9:7-8 NLT).
